Warhammer 40K Painted Assassinorum: Execution Force Minis

After over a month of being slack I seem to have finally got the painting bug back again and I have painted all the interesting minis from the Assassinorum: Execution Force game.  By 'interesting' minis I mean everything except the cultists, not that I think there's anything wrong with them, just that I've painted the same minis before when they came in the Dark Vengeance set.

Lets start with the stars of the show the Assassins; and in particular my long-time favourite temple the Vindicare.

The Assassins weren't the easiest minis to paint and I spent a good while considering the best approach before starting painting.  This is a very unusual approach for me, in the end I painted them solid grey to start with and then washed them with 'Nuln Oil' five times to give the depth to the synsuits.

I've also painted the Big Bads from the game.  As my Chaos Space Marine army is painted as Alpha Legion I have naturally painted these to match.

A few more random bits and pieces have been finished, which I present below;

 

First this rogue trader era Imperial Army standard bearer for use with my Imperial Guard Astra Militarum army.  This guy came without his right arm, I searched fruitlessly for an appropriate spare Cadian arm, that would have worked better, but had to settle for this Catachan one in the end.

 

 These are Ver-Mym from Mantic's warpath universe, although these ones came with the project Pandora game.  They're clearly space skaven, and are at the higher end of Mantic's variable sculpting range.  These have been painted to match the plague marines in my warhammer 40k chaos space marine army as they have a dual role as a squad of chaos cultists as well.

 

 

A few askaris from foundry's darkest Africa range to go with my as yet uncompleted explorers project.

 

 

This was an odd elf that got sent to me with an order of historical stiff from wargames foundry.  I like the general style of the fig, but can't say that I really approve of the gratuitous exposed breasts.  It just seems silly and pointless.

 

 

And finally these three Eldar jetbikes for 40K.  These are very old minis, and frankly not very good, but they will see action as a vital tactical part of the Eldar forces.

 

From The Painting Table #14 - This Month I have Been Painting.......

All sorts of random things really, none of the stuff belongs to specific projects or armies/warbands that needed work, I just fancied pulling a few models I liked the look of out of the pile and painting them up.

 

First up is this pack of 'Hollywood heroes' made my warlord games for the anglo-zulu war of 1879.  Of course based on the main characters from the awesome film 'Zulu', now I don't normally hold with minis of bona fide historical personalities being given a Hollywood makeover, but Zulu is such a fantastic movie I'm willing to make an exception in this case.  In case you needed telling from left to right we have; Private Henry Hook, Lt John Chard, Lt Gonville Bromhead & Colour-Sergeant Bourne.

 

 

I've also painted a selection of what would have been termed 'Imperial agents' back in the day (like 20 years ago I know) for warhammer 40K, after painting them I did think they would make a nice little inquisitorial warband, I might have to dig out the old rouge trader inquisitor I have in my collection and give him a lick of paint too.

 

 

This is a classic Adeptus Arbite armed with a bolt gun, rather than their characteristic shotguns.  I've been trying to get hold of a full squad of these at a reasonable price for ages, but have failed miserably, seems I'm not the only one who likes them.  I'm not sure what it is about them either, they are old and very flat posed, and technically not very good models, but something about them still screams cool to me.

 

I'm rather proud of how this callidus assassin came out, I think one of my better paint jobs.  Vindicare and callidus are my two favourite assassin temples, who doesn't love polymorphine.

 

An Imperial Guard colonel here, painted to match the rest of my Imperial Guard detatchment.  Although it started as an allied contingent I've managed to acquire enough Imperial Guard for them to form a small army on their own now, if only I could face up to painting another 50 or so guardsmen.

 

And finally for the Imperials this Inquisitorial scribe.

 

Some more classic citadel now, this time for warhammer fantasy in the shape of these 3 classic Norse miniatures.  These were spares I had when I picked up a whole lot of classic Norse minis for a Mordheim warband, these didn't find a place in that warband, but again I just really like the models and they've found their place on the shelf.

 

 

 

And finally another random Airfix kit that I bought, this time a British Bofors 40mm gun and tractor from WW2 in 1:76 scale.  I like these little airfix kits with more than one element too them, it makes for an interesting build and looks good on the shelf.  The tractor was a slightly more challenging build than I was expecting as well.  I've painted this one for action in northern Europe after D-Day, not for north Africa as it is on the box, just because I prefer it in green!

Deadzone - Enforcer Faction Starter Set & Chovar Psychic

The first models from my mighty deadzone package have been finished and today we are looking mainly at the enforcers.  The enforcers are one of the two factions included in the basic set, and as such most players are going to end up with some, luckily I think they're great.

Half of these enforcers were actually designed for warpath as there's been a delay in the deadzone specific ones, which of course means that I've loads more enforcers due in the second package from the kickstarter, including some rather nifty looking ones with shotguns and riot shields.

I had a bit of a dilemma over the choice of colour scheme as I painted a unit of enforcers a while ago for my Imperial Guard army.  I really like the example scheme mantic came up with for all the photos in the book, but in the end I decided to paint these in the same scheme as my original batch.  I'm considering re-basing the originals now to match these.

Gamewise we've found the enforcers very powerful so far.  They don't get a lot of models but each is flexible, powerful and tough.  I don't think they're inherently more powerful than the other factions, but they are more forgiving and seem to have a gentler learning curve,

I've also painted this Chovar Psychic mercenary.  I've not used him yet, but his rules indicate he has the potential to be a powerful support piece.  He's an interesting model, I'm assuming he uses his psychic powers to float around as he seems to lack any other means of supporting his body.  One thing the deadzone book is missing is a proper background section with details like that.

I've managed to get a little bit of painting in over the winter break and actually managed to finish off a couple of projects that I present below.

First is the Thranduil from GW's new The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug range.  He wasn't cheap or to be honest good value, but he is very nice.

This is a squad of Mantic Games corporation troopers, these have a dual role in my collection.  They actually come from the project Pandora boardgame I got cheap a while back, but will also be seeing service in my Imperial Guard army for 40K.

And finally this Loka earth rook which came from this years mantic crazy Christmas box.  I like this guy a lot and am quite tempted to get a set of the pieces now.

40K - Imperial Guard Reinforcements

A whole bunch of new stuff for my 40K Imperial Guard detactment today.  Starting with this chimera APC.  This came second hand off ebay, and needed a bit of work to make it bearable (thats what I get for being a cheapskate), but it's come through in the end I think (even if I still don't like the dozer blade), and will proove very useful.

Next we have a squad of 6 ratling snipers, very useful and very characterful models, this is the third time I've painted this squad and I'm finally happy with it.

Next a catachan captain, this has always been one of my favorite models ever since it first came out.

Next we have a random ebay purchase.  Mantic have never said as much but these enforcers are clearly their take on space marines, jolly nice they are too, in fact when put next to a space marine the enforcers realistic proportions make the space marines look cartoony and a bit silly.  These won't be joining my space marine army but I'm planning to use them as count as storm troopers for the Imperial Guard. I might see if I can pick up another 5 cheap off ebay as well to complete the squad.

The detail on these is really great, they're made from mantic's plastic-resin material, which I'm afraid I'm going off of.  Sticking them together was a giant pain, and they lack the options a hard plastic sprue would provide.

And finally not technically Imperial Guard, but we have this rogue trader era Inquisitor, who I feel would make a nice 'counts as' for a HQ choice.

A Leman Russ & Khan The Betrayer

A breif break from middle-earth today as two more 40K projects come to completion.  Below is my new Leman Russ battle tank for my small Imperial Guard detactment.  My imperial guard find themselves fighting with both my space marines and chaos space marines, and I can always find a use for a battle cannon.

Below is a Kharn the Betrayer I got as part of an ebay lot, I plan to use him as a berserker champion in my Alpha Legion army.  I've not painted the berserkers yet, but Obviosuly plan to paint them like kharn below.  Why do my Alpha Legion have berserkers? well basically I want them too, The story is in the warbands long isolation the legions martial pride has led some warriors to follow khorne and there is a small break-away sect whilst remaining Alpha Legion.  It's not cannon, but it's my army :P

A Few More 40K bits

An assortment of recently finished projects today, all for warhammer 40K.

Starting off with these 5 fire dragons with exarch, which takes my fire dragon squad upto 10 and enough firepower to melt just about anything!

Another squad is completed with these two terminators taking my 'normal' terminator squad upto a full 10 men.

And finally two squads of Imperial Guard infantry to form the core of my allied detachment. These came off ebay cheap, but one of the downsides of this is that they're not put together as well as I would have liked, but they're OK and will hopefully do their job well.

Stormtalon, Alpha Legion Lord & Primaris Pysker

There's been a bit of a dearth of posting around here recently, and that's because it's summer and I've been outside enjoying myself.  Finally I've got around to finishing another couple of bits, starting with this stormtalon gunship.  A rather cool piece and I'm looking forward to trying it out next weekend.

Also this chaos lord for my fledgeling alpha legion force.  I've got rather excited this week over the leaked pics from the new 40K starter set, the chaos side in particular will make very welcome additions to my collection.

And finally this primaris pysker to act as a HQ choice for my allied imperial guard detactment.  This is an older model that came with some chaos marines that I bought off ebay as a useful bonus.
