From The Painting Table #16

Another showcase of my latest eclectic selection of painted minis for today.  December was inevitably a busy month and I really didn't achieve much on the painting front at all, but what I did manage to do somehow was play a lot of Warhammer Quest....

Which leads me nicely to this chap, who is of course a classic citadel Chaos Warrior who has had a repaint and a dedicated Warhammer Quest style base rather than my normal green flock.  The party also contains a pit fighter, a wizard and a warrior priest.  Both the pit fighter and wizard have dedicated Warhammer Quest minis already so expect to see a warrior priest in the near future.

Next we have some additions to my Darkest Africa collection courtesy of Foundry, on the top a couple of British NCO's from their Boer War range and on the bottom an explorer both on and off a donkey.

 

Staying with Foundry somewhat randomly we have here two ancient Greek Hoplites, why? I really don't know except that I fancied painting them.

 

The last Hobbit movie was an enjoyable movie if admittedly not a masterpiece like the Lord of the Rings movies were, and it gave me the urge to paint a few more middle earth bits starting with this Tauriel.  I was quite pleased with the result until I photographed it and now the hair is looking way to bright so I will have to try and tone it down a bit somehow.

 



Not going far from Tauriel at all we have these wood elf archers from GW Lord of the Rings range, but who would of course happily work fighting along side Tauriel and Legolas in a Hobbit game.

Now to the first finished minis from my second wave Deadzone kickstarter package.  I started with a few Enforcers, which for some reason I really enjoy painting, from left to right we have an enforcer captain, Sgt Howlett and an enforcer with fusion gun.

 

Finally we have these two plague corrupted enforcers.  I've a veritable mountain of Deadzone stuff still to paint and of course I am eagerly awaiting the imminent arrival of wave 3.

Heroes of Middle-Earth: Beorn & Elendil

Just a quick post today to show a couple of middle-earth models I've just finished.

First is the Brand new Beorn model from the new The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug range.  A giant of a man, he towers over the other races in the range.  Unfortunately He's made out of finecast, and had several bubbles I had to fill in, I hope they ditch finecast soon, it really isn't a good material.

 

Secondly we have this old Elendil model I dug out of the pile.

I've managed to get a little bit of painting in over the winter break and actually managed to finish off a couple of projects that I present below.

First is the Thranduil from GW's new The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug range.  He wasn't cheap or to be honest good value, but he is very nice.

This is a squad of Mantic Games corporation troopers, these have a dual role in my collection.  They actually come from the project Pandora boardgame I got cheap a while back, but will also be seeing service in my Imperial Guard army for 40K.

And finally this Loka earth rook which came from this years mantic crazy Christmas box.  I like this guy a lot and am quite tempted to get a set of the pieces now.

Treebeard Some Call Me......

The release of the extended DVD version of the Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey a couple of weeks ago has inspired me to paint a few models off my pile of Lord of the rings figures, the star of which is the mighty ent treebeard, but I've painted a few smaller characters as well.

The DVD was worth waiting for rather than getting the standard edition earlier in the year.  The extra scenes themselves are OK, but I can see why they got cut from the theatrical release.  The extra features are however fantastic and I've sat through and enjoyed around 8 hours worth of the documentaries plus the full length directors commentary.  I'll defiantly be getting the extended versions of the other films.

The first miniature releases for the desolation of Smaug are out now as well, the elf rangers look fantastic and I'm planning on getting some at some point (although not straight away as I have all those deadzone models to paint).

The Hobbit: Dwarf Grimhammers

It's been a few months since my last trip to middle-earth, I've now returned and painted a box of dwarf grimhammers from the Hobbit range.  These are really fantastic looking models and I'm very pleased with them.

A couple of weeks ago I actually played the Hobbit game for the first time, playing through a couple of the scenarios in boxed set.  It's quite fun really and I'd like to play it a bit more and use the rest of my middle-earth figures, however to take the next step you really need to buy the £50 rulebook (for the army lists and points values), and that's a bit steep for me.

Just a quicky today, a few pics of my newly painted hunter orcs from GW's Hobbit range.  Not a lot else to say really, comments as always welcome...

The Hobbit: Escape From Goblin Town - Finished!

I've done it! I've completed painting the hobbit boxed set.  It's been a lot of fun and although I was a little bit dubious of the price when I bought it, I'm glad I did.  Below we have the final dwarves, Bombur, Bifur & Bofur.

Then we have Rhadaghast the Brown along with hedgehog friend.

The Hobbit: Kili, Fili, Goblins & Elves

More from middle-earth today starting off with the dwarf brothers Fili and Kili.  The fili model is a bit flat, but kili is excellent.

Next we have the last of the goblins from the goblin town boxed set, they've been suprisingly fun to paint.

And finally a few elves, a metal Gil-Galad and 4 plastic wood elves.  Origanally I painted gil-galad with the dark hair that is normally painted on this model, but it didn't work so I've switched it to blonde.

The Hobbit: Dori, Nori, Ori & a Few More Goblins

I'm getting closer and closer to finishing my Hobbit set and we start today with Ori, Dori and Nori, I think Dori is my favorite out of this lot.

Then we have yet some more goblins;

And finally I've also finished my little bit of goblin town.

 

 

Kili, Fili and the final batch of goblins are nearly done as well and should be appearing soon.

The Hobbit: Gloin, Oin, Balin & Dwalin

Yep, more from the Hobbit boxed set today, specifically 4 of the dwarves, the top picture shows Gloin and Oin, who I'm rather pleased with,  below them is Balin and Dwalin, who whilst I still think are OK didn't turn out as well as the other two.  At the bottom is the Great Goblins throne.  I'm chugging along nicely now with half the dwarves, most of the goblins, and all the scenary apart from one platform painted up.

The Hobbit: Thorin Oakensheild, The Great Goblin & More

Back to middle-earth today, with some more models from The Hobbit starter set.  First off is the mighty Thorin Oakensheild, he has the option of being armed with with the elven blade orcist or with his dwarf sword and the oakensheild.  He finds orcist pretty early on in the story so I've chosen to arm him with that.  

 

Next 3 more goblins.

 

Then we have the Great Goblin, who is my favorite out of this lot after being painted, which suprised me a bit, as before the paintjob I wasn't so impressed.

 

Then we have the great goblins two henchmen, grishnah and the tiny goblin captain, both painted in the same way as all the other goblins.  I've no idea why they decided to make the goblin captain so tiny, but I'm not a fan of it.

The Hobbit: Gandalf The Grey & More Goblins

Just a quick pre-xmas post today with a few new painted miniatures from the Hobbit.  I've seen the movie now as well and am very impressed.

First off is Gandalf the Grey, wizard extradinare, like bilbo before this is a really great model, and really captures the look of Gandalf in the movie.

The next batch of 10 goblins is also done...

As is another two sections of the goblin town scenary.
