From The Painting Table #15

A few more random bits and pieces have been finished, which I present below;

First this rogue trader era Imperial Army standard bearer for use with my Imperial Guard Astra Militarum army.  This guy came without his right arm, I searched fruitlessly for an appropriate spare Cadian arm, that would have worked better, but had to settle for this Catachan one in the end.

These are Ver-Mym from Mantic's warpath universe, although these ones came with the project Pandora game.  They're clearly space skaven, and are at the higher end of Mantic's variable sculpting range.  These have been painted to match the plague marines in my warhammer 40k chaos space marine army as they have a dual role as a squad of chaos cultists as well.

A few askaris from foundry's darkest Africa range to go with my as yet uncompleted explorers project.

This was an odd elf that got sent to me with an order of historical stiff from wargames foundry.  I like the general style of the fig, but can't say that I really approve of the gratuitous exposed breasts.  It just seems silly and pointless.

And finally these three Eldar jetbikes for 40K.  These are very old minis, and frankly not very good, but they will see action as a vital tactical part of the Eldar forces.

From The Painting Table #13

I've had two quiet months in a row now on the blog, and although it wasn't planned I often find gaming and painting takes a back seat in the summer as my life fills up with other things.  This time the main culprit is the fact that I bought a second hand Xbox 360 which came with Skyrim, and I've got a little bit addicted to it, couple this with holidays, family stuff and a new role at work and I've found it difficult to find much spare time.  All this aside I have painted a few bits over the last month or so...

First up we have this addition to the Eldar army for 40K, a squad of wraithblades, great models, not so sure about the rules, a mere one attack seems to limit their potential.  I tried a bit of an experiment with the energy shields and gave them a coat of gloss varnish , I think it works.

This is a bit of a random LOTR figure I dug out from the pile, mainly because I wanted a Legolas for my Hobbit collection, but didn't want to pay the price of the new one, this one does the job nicely.

Next we have one of the new dwarf Gyrobombers for my warhammer fantasy dwarf army.  It's not a bad piece at all but I was a bit disappointed when the new Dwarf book came out that the dwarves didn't get one of the really big impressive kits that absolutely every other release seems to come with at the moment, where's my dirigible GW?  having had that little moan overall I'm pleased with the new book, nothing radically changed, but lots of little tweaks that make the army that little bit more competitive and also fun to play with.

This is what I really want!

The Gyrobomber was a pain to paint with lots of intertwining runic decoration, and another big thing for me was that this was the first time I'd seem a new style GW flying base with round attacher.  You wouldn't believe how happy I was when I first saw this piece of plastic tumble out of the box!

The joy this piece of plastic bought me is indescribable

Finally we have the last two mercenaries that came with my first deadzone package, the forge father woman Freya and the psychotic Judwan assassin Wrath.  They're probably the worst models out of the set, which is why I left them till last.  The second package from the deadzone kickstarter is due soon and I'm definitely looking forward to it.

From The Painting Table #11

Another group of freshly painted models for your perusal today, this time we have a unit of Eldar Wraithguard for 40K, two mercs for Deadzone and a couple of tanks for flames of war.

These are the old Wraithguard models and I had to rebase them so they fit with the current rules, and whilst they looked a bit big on their small bases, they look rather small on their new ones.  Still these are primarily for gaming so large bases it is.  The next unit for my eldar will be a unit of the new Wraithblades, which are a big improvement on these models.

Here we have two mercenaries for Mantic's excellent deadzone game.  On the left we have 'The Survivor' and on the right 'The Helfather'.  Two rather nifty models I think, we've played quite a bit of deadzone since it arrived, but haven't yet got around to using any of the mercs, will need to try and remedy this soon.

And finally these two plastic British Sherman tanks for flames of war.  These are the company HQ for the British armoured company that comes in the open fire starter set.  Does this mean I've gone and brought yet another big box of models?  Well yes of course it does!  However I am splitting it with Mike so it's not too bad.  It also means that after a couple of years of slowly buying flames of wars minis I might finally get a game.  Full look at the boxed set coming soon.

From the Painting Table #10

Another collection of recently painted unrelated figures today that didn't quite warrant their own blog post.

Starting with this Eldar Wraithlord for 40K.  This is the second wraithlord I've painted and I like them a lot, both the model and the concept.  I still haven't quite got the hang of painting yellow though.

Another 40K model next with this Nurgle Plague Marine lord, I have a small squad of plague marines in my mostly Alpha legion Chaos space marine army and I always like to have a leader to sub-sections of my army.  It will allow me to field the plague marine squad as troops as well, which will be potentially useful.

These three Ogres come from the mantic crazy Christmas box I got a couple of months ago, they were one of my favourite items from the box and have been a joy to paint.  They come with the option for hand weapons or these double handed weapons that I've armed mine with.  They fit in really well with my classic citadel Ogres as well.

And finally this Zvezda Soviet T-35 tank in 1:100 scale from their art of tactics range.  It's an absolute beast of a tank, dwarfing even the mighty panther, it proved to be rather impractical in the end though.

40K - Eldar Striking Scorpions & Warlock

It's been a quiet month on this blog, but that's not because I've not been painting, but because I've had many projects on the go all of which are nearing completion at the same time.  This first finished project is this squad of striking scorpions and a warlock for my eldar army.

From the Painting Table 8

I'm resurrecting this old format of mine to show off a couple of completely unrelated projects that I've just finished.

To start with we have this squad of 6 Eldar dire avengers.  Painted in a similar manner to the last unit of these I painted, but with the red and white crest pattern reversed so I can tell the members of the two squads apart.

We also have this 1:288 scale model of the Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird, made by somebody called Ace Corporation who I've never heard of.  This purchase was of course inspired by my recent trip to the Imperial War Museum at Duxford.  It's not a big kit, but it does what it's supposed to do just fine.  It has the option of wheels, but I've mounted it on a GW flying base.  One think that struck me about this kit was that it came with 29 separate, often very small and fiddly, transfers to apply!

40K Eldar Wraithlord & Space Marine Land Speeder Storm

I've been having a busy summer and have got almost no painting done over the last couple of months, but finally I've managed to finish a couple of bits off, first of which is this Eldar Wraithlord.  I'm pretty pleased overall with this guy, although I still haven't quite managed to get yellow right.

Also this scout transporting land speeder storm. It's supposed to have four scouts in the back as well being transported, which I will get to at some point (maybe) but this has been on my painting table for a year or so and I just wanted to get it useable as quick as possible, for a 50pt model it's taken a lot of work.

A Few More 40K bits

An assortment of recently finished projects today, all for warhammer 40K.

Starting off with these 5 fire dragons with exarch, which takes my fire dragon squad upto 10 and enough firepower to melt just about anything!

Another squad is completed with these two terminators taking my 'normal' terminator squad upto a full 10 men.

And finally two squads of Imperial Guard infantry to form the core of my allied detachment. These came off ebay cheap, but one of the downsides of this is that they're not put together as well as I would have liked, but they're OK and will hopefully do their job well.

40K Eldar Fire Dragons

Well 40K definately seems to be becoming the theme of my summer, and today I put the finishing touches to another squad for my eldar army.  I did these fire dragons to provide the eldar army with some much needed punch, as assault guns at S8 melta make a mess of almost anything.  I'm really pleased with how they've come out and I think are my best eldar to date.  I do have a couple of non-40K units on my painting table, but they seem (unitentionally) to be getting left behind.

Eldar Viper & 40K Ruins

Just a quicky today, a new Eldar Vyper Jetbike to show and a couple of pieces of gothic ruins.

The Vyper has had an extra heavy weapon slung underneath in the manner of a landspeeder.  And for 60pts can put out 6 strength 6 shots a turn, not to shabby at all.

The ruins are the old plastic set that origanally came in the 3rd edition boxed set.  I didn't put a lot of effort into these, just a quick spray in grey and the a covering in devlan mud, but its worked out I think.

Also as it happens this is my 200th post, I'm quite suprised that I've got this far to be honest, but thank you for reading, and heres to the next 200!
