Dreadfleet - Finished at Last! - Auxillary Cogs

Well I've gone and done it! I've finished my Dreadfleet painting project, below are the 7 auxillary cogs, which means I've now painted every warship, auxillary, sea monster and island in the game.  I've enjoyed it overall and am pleased with the result, even if it did feel like I'd never get there at some points, it's nice to feel that I've actually managed to finish a project for once as well.

The 'Good' Pirate Cogs

The 'Bad' Pirate Cogs

It all looks rather good painted up I reckon.

In truth I could still paint the ruler, turning templates and wind guage, but I'm not going to, can't see the point!

Dreadfleet - The Bloody Reaver & Sea Monsters

The last warship is done, Count Noctulis' gigantic ship the Bloody Reaver joins the rest of the fleet.  At first I didn't like this ship it seemed to much of a mess, but I've started to appreciate it a bit more and enjoyed painting it.

I've also finished the sea monsters from the game, I painted them very basically in a sort of ghostly way.

Thats almost it for dreadfleet, I've only got the 7 auxillary cogs to go now.

Dreadfleet - The Flaming Scimitar

The penultimate warship rolls off the production line, this time the arabian inspisred flaming scimitar, which has cool little spirits that help it move and fight.  It's an interesting ship and I enjoyed painting it.  My dreadfleet project is nearly finished now, only the bloody reaver and the sea monsters to go.

Dreadfleet - The Seadrake

Another ship from Dreadfleet rolls off the painting line, this time the High Elf ship the Seadrake, a quick ship, but it doesn't pack much of a punch.  It does however carry two dragons. I like the model, but I don't think that my paint job came out that well, but judge for yourselves.

Only two more of the big ships to go now, lets hope I can finish them before getting too distracted by my other projects.

Dreadfleet - A New Scenario From GW... Sort Of...

On yesterdays 'Whats new today' blog Games Workshop posted A second PDF for Dreadfleet! This came as a bit of a shock to me as I really wasn't expecting any more support, but it looks as if they still have a few copies left in the warehouse (I hope it sells out in the end as I want GW to develop more big boxed games like this and Space Hulk).  The file contains a basic sceanrio to give you a flavour of the game, with a time limit of 15mins instead of a turn limit, having played dreadfleet I can safely say that you won't achieve hardly anything in 15mins and you'll need to at least double that.  I was quite dissapointed I was really hoping for a new proper scenario, oh well.  The second page is a admittedly useful quick reference guide.  Like the last PDF this is hardly going to set anyone alight, but if you have dreadfleet you should still go take a look.

Dreadfleet - The Curse Of Zandri

The next ship rolls off the painting line, this time the tomb kings ship the curse of zandri.  It's my least favorite ship from the set. I'm not entirely sure why, but I just don't like it that much, anyway its done and I can move on too other ships that I do like.  The Seadrake is currently on the table waiting to go.

The final shipwreck piece

The Dreadfleet (minus its leader) sets sail.

Dreadfleet - The Heldenhammer & Castle Island

Finally I've finished the Heldenhammer from Dreadfleet, it has taken me ages, all the detail on the sides and in particulary the sails is great, but boy does it take a lot of work.  It's a good model and I am pleased with the result, however I can't say I'm excited about tackiling the bloody reaver, and if I'm honest there is more I could do to the Heldenhammer, but I frankly don't have the time.

And this is castle island, the final major terrain piece from dreadfleet (I think i still have one of the smaller shipwreck pieces to go)

Dreadfleet - Leviathan Island & Flying Auxillaries

The latest few painted bits from dreadfleet today, no big ships, but one of the more interesting terrain pieces and the rather cool dragon and dirigible pieces.  I'm over half way through dreadfleet now I think, I have two more warships and the last major terrain piece nearing completion, including the heldenhammer (which has taken an awful lot of work).  Work is always very busy at this time of year, and I keep getting distracted, but I'm currently aiming to have it all done by the christmas holiday, but we will see.

Dreadfleet - New PDF Up On GW Site

GW have posted a PDF for dreadfleet on their whats new today blog called 'beyond the maelstrom'.  This is the sort of ongoing support that we weren't really expecting.  Its not exactly a lot though, it has a few ideas for tweaking the scenarios to present different challenges, and a campaign subplot designed to make things harder on the Grand Alliance player with the captain of the swordfysh potentially changing sides as the campaign draws to its end.  The second page is then a blank scenario for you to design your own.

All ok stuff it not exactly brilliant, although if you read the file it was clearly designed along with dreadfleet, so why not just include it in the box in the first place.  But still if you bought Dreadfleet you should go and have a look.

Dreadfleet - The Swordfysh and Volcano Island

Another ship done, this time the swordfysh for the Grand Alliance.  I like the ship a lot (even with the silly prow) and a lot more work went into this than any of the ships I'd done so far.  That was mainly down to the embossed sails I think, but they came up a treat and are a massive plus to the model.  The sharp grey highlights on the sails look a lot better in real life than in the piccy's for some reason.

As usual I've done another couple of bits of the terrain as well, the main one being volcano island, which features unsuprisingly a volcano.

The Curse of Zandri and the Heldenhammer are both on the painting table as I type this, but I'm already getting urges to go and paint other things, I am determined to finish dreadfleet though, but we will have to see how it goes.

Dreadfleet - The Skabarus and Grimnirs Fury

I've finished another couple of the ships from Dreadfleet, the undead skaven ship the Skabarus and the dwarven ironclad Grimnirs Fury.  Very different ships design wise, but both interesting.

So here we have the skabarus, an undead leviathan (with clear design nods to the angler fish) crewed by skaven and decked out with warp lightning cannons that ignore armour, perfect for taking on....

The Dwarven Ironclad Grimnirs Fury, this is the best armoured ship in the game and launches cool (and useful) little airships.

I've been trying to paint the islands as I go as well rather than leave them all for the end, these are the latest additions.
