A Few Camels for the Sudan

Some more 1:72 scale colonials today this time from HaT's colonial range.  Most of the figures are from the Egyptian Camel Corps boxed set with a British handler that I had spare from the Zulu war British Mounted Infantry set. 

Taaishi Camelry & The Start of Yet Another Army

HaT have finally anounced that their Dervish infantry will be released in their next wave of releases (still upto six months away, but at least they're on the horizon) and this has inspried me to paint up the rest if my box of Taaishi Camelry.  I painted half of the box a while ago (see here) to act as native scouts for my British army, and as I planned then the remaining 8 have finally been painted, and are the first unit for my new Dervish army.

So today we have the latest editions to my British army in the Sudan (1880's) in 1:72 scale

My first new addition is my naval brigade gatling gun

This is made from a HaT Gardner Gun with the Gatling gun from a Hat Gatling Gun set.  I'm not entirely sure on the accuracy of this, but it was easier to convert the gun to fit the naval carridge than to convert the sailor to fit the Gatling carridge, if anyone does know wether this is right or not please let me know.

Next some dismounted Camel Corps also from HaT, not sure why but I never got around to painting them when I did the mounted ones.

Sudan Mounted Infantry

Today I'm going to share another recent project, my British Mounted Infantry in the Sudan (early 1880's) to add to my army.  They are 1/72 scale HaT Industrie Zulu war mounted infantry, but painted in grey rather than red.  There are some inaccuracies in the uniform (the lack of puttees and pugarees for example), but as we're still waiting for a basic infantry set I think a mounted infantry set is out of the question at the moment, and I think they still give the right feel.

All apart from the officers came from a single box.  The mounted officer is taken from Hat's British Camel Corps and glued to one of the horses intended to be lead by the dismounted soilders and the dismounted officer is taken from waterloo 1815's anglo-egyptian army.  I painted them red just for the sake of it really, apparently some officers did still wear red in the sudan and I like seeing British troops in redjackets.
